EMT Academy

                                                     

EMTs Wanted! The EMT Academy starts in August and goes until the first week in December. Class is Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. Click the link below to apply. The following are required to apply:

  • Copy of Driver’s License or form of government or state issued identification (must be at least 17 years of age to enroll; cannot apply for licenses with Washington DOH until 18 years of age)
  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent (a variance may be requested if still in high school)
  • A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification (Basic Life Support [BLS] for Provider certification provided by American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute or American Red Cross only).  This certification is available from Sky Valley Fire https://www.skyvalleyfire.org/cpr-first-aid-training .
  • Proof of the following immunizations:Tuberculosis (TB): one of the following within the last six months:1 step TB skin testTB Gold blood testT-spot blood testInterferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) blood testNegative chest x-ray with physician documentation stating you are TB negative
    • Measles (rubeola), mumps, and rubella: two vaccinations or positive titer
    • Varicella (chicken pox): two vaccinations or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B: three vaccinations or positive titer (series in process with two vaccinations complete will be accepted)
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap): vaccination within the last ten years
  • Flu: vaccination during the current flu season
  • Meningitis: proof within the past five years if under the age of thirty
  • Must meet State of Washington background requirements including criminal history and drug use.
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record
  • Must be able to physically accomplish the job of being an emergency medical technician
  • All class sessions are required to attend. The student is allowed to miss no more than one (1) class over the entire length of the program for any reason so make sure you are free on the dates class is scheduled.
  • Class begins promptly at the scheduled time and lasts the scheduled number of hours on the scheduled days. The student will be considered tardy if he/she is not in the classroom at the time class starts.  Three (3) tardies will constitute one class absence.

Priority registration will be given to the following groups

  • Persons who reside in the boundaries of Sky Valley Fire's response area
  • Members affiliated with a local fire department or EMS agency including Search and Rescue
  • Students of vocational Firefighting training programs

Additional spots will be based on availability. If there are more applicants then spots available, applicants will be chosen at random via a lottery.

Tuition for the Academy is $1500, this covers the cost of instruction and supplies.

In addition to tuition students will be required to purchase the following:

Wristwatch with a sweep second hand or digital (phones are not permitted as substitute)

Navy Blue EMS Pants Mens

Navy Blue EMS Pants Womens

Leather Garrison Belt

Composite toe safety boot

Recommended Course Materials

  • Blood-pressure cuff (*MUST BE LATEX FREE)
  • High Quality Stethoscope (*MUST BE LATEX FREE)
  • Penlight
  • Safety glasses (OTG and/or side shields for prescription glasses)
  • Notetaking and organizational materials such as pens, pencils, highlighters, paper, notebooks, post-it flags
